Foundations Class
Whether you've just adopted a dog, have been living with dogs for years, volunteer at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, or simply want to better understand dogs, this class is for you.
As the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe's Canine Training Coordinator, Tower is excited to open this class to the entire community.
This is a dog-free class focused on helping you understand the dog on the other end of the leash.
Rather than teaching a list of commands, the class explores how dogs learn, why they behave the way they do, and how clear communication can build trust and confidence. Topics include reinforcement, arousal and stress, management, reading body language, helping dogs feel safe, and how small changes in human behavior can have a big impact on a dog's behavior.
Whether you're raising a puppy, living with a newly adopted dog, or simply want a stronger relationship with your current dog, this class provides practical concepts you can apply every day that will change life with your dog.
While there isn't an age restriction, the class is designed for adults. Children are welcome to attend, though younger children may find the class a bit long and boring depending on their age and interest.
This class is free and open to everyone.
The class is held once a month on the second Saturday of the month from 9 am to 11 am in the HSTT Education room.
This is a dog-free class. (please don’t bring your pups to class with you)
(-to give Dog Pause time to plan, sign ups close at Noon the Friday before-)
